Week 6 (b)

How has our problems with the discussion board affected this and other classes? What do you think of the blog format compared to the discussion board?

I have found that with the discussion board being down it has only affected two of my classes (out of five). My children's lit class started out using a blog site and not the discussion board so it didn't change anything in that class. The other two don't do any discussing, which I find affects the content of the class but none the less they don't require it so no one post! So this class and one other is the only ones and I don't think its been that bad, so far my other instructor has just had us email him what our post would have been, however that doesn't help with everyone being able to read the posts. I think that the blog area is a very good substitution.

Well, I see one problem, I thought this was the other class... so one problem is It's a bit harder to keep track of what blog is what! Now I have three classes on this blog site. My response still applies however I thought this was my Foundations of Education class... oops!

i kinda like the posting better because you can go to your selected class and just post a comment. either way it does not matter to me. I just like seeing other students posts so i can reply back and talk about the different discussions.

Well, I am glad to have you guys all online again where we can interact a bit more. This class uses the discussion board pretty heavily to communicate and get your homework, so it was starting to drive me nuts not having it.

Pam, what other blog site are you using for your other classes? Are they all on Blogger.com or a mix? This is partly why we normally encourage other faculty to use the discussion board to help everybody keep things straight when taking classes. You can have too many toys for sure.

All of my classes are using blogger, and one of my classes made two blogs just for her class, so I have to keep up with both of them for one class. I don't really mind the blog format I just have to keep it all straight. I do like being able to just log into blackboard and stay there though!

The discussion board being out of operation has thrown a wrench into my organizational flow. Usually about this time in the semester, I have a pretty good rhythm going. I have one other class where I am supposed to use the blogger as a discussional tool and it's OK, but I'm having difficulty keeping track of all the passwords that I need to remember this semester. I think I'm just so used to the discussion board that I have some kind of attitude towards changing format. Blogging is preferable to e-mail, but I miss the discussion board. What happened to it?

Well, it looks like they got the Discussion Board fixed in Bb, so we will probably go back to that just to keep things simpler. Don't forget your passwords for Blogger though, we will play with this a little more. Actually I was going to do a little deal with blogs next week, but due to necessity, we seem to have jumped a week. Ha ha. MK

Well, I was able to post my blog, which I'm surprised I figured out how to do!!! I guess since I'm starting to feel a little more comfortable with the Discussion Board on BB, this transition isn't easy for me. My other class is just waiting for BB to be up and running again, so we've had an easy 2 weeks in that class. I think I do prefer our other format, so I really hope they can get it fixed soon.

Well, I must admit I am a bit discouraged that blackboard has been completely unavailable for the last 28 hours... I only have weekends to do the majority of my homework and sense I didn't know it was going down I didn't download anything... I really hope its up and running on Sunday, or I am really behind! Anyone else feeling some anxiety over not having any access at all?

I have found that using the blog site is better than what we are using in some of my other classes. In one class we are using Google and it is very confusing. Its kind of hard to remember were I have to go for discussion now in each class. I cant wait till discussion board gets running again so I know what I'm doing

I am also in Children’s lit like Pam R and as she stated we already used Blogger for that class so the problems did not affect that class. I like some aspects of both ways. I like blogger because you don’t have to click around you can just read all the way down. But I like the discussion board because just by looking quickly to the right you can see how many you have not read or need to read, and you don’t have to look through them all to find where you left off. So I guess I don’t really dislike one or the other too much.

Well, we are going to flip back to the Discussion Board now that it is working in Bb. Keep everybody in one place rather than bouncing between sites. Plus, it makes grading a lot easier for me too. :D

To be completely honest, I did not even know that Blackboard was ever down. I only had a idea that Blackboard was down because of the post under announcements. I do not know about everyone else, but I have not seen any problems with dicussion board. I agree with some of the other posts that it does not really matter which one we use as long as there is the interaction.

I like either one. I didn't know there was problems with the blackboard.

My main learning style is audio. It seems easier to retain what I have heard than to retain what I have had to read. It saves me a lot of time listening to a lecture or a video. I don't have to read things twice. I also like learning by doing things hands on and not just reading about it. I like having things to reference when I am learning about a subject.

I personally prefer to use the Bb instead of the blogger. But I do not see too many differences. They are both basically the same.

I didn't have any problems because I started both this class and my other classes a week late. I like both the blog style and the discussion board. But I will say, that I prefer the discussion board because I am so use to using it and it's been so easy to use. I really enjoy posting my comments and being able to see the comments of my classmates! It's really helpful!

I'm loving blogging. This is my 1st time doing it so much. It's just like texting. I enjoy reading others comments.

My learning is hands on or visual. I have a hard time listening to lectures and watching videos. If i'm listening to a lecture I find myself drawing or doing another subjects homework. If i'm watching a video I catch myself not watching the video, checking email, looking at other homework, and pretty much anything else I can find. Online learning has been very difficult for me because of this. I have really had to train myself to learn differently and it's been a challenge. I don't think this will affect my teaching style at the level of children I want to work with because it's very hands on at a young age. I guess I shouldn't say it won't affect it, it probably will to a point and hopefully by then I will have all my flaws worked out.
